Turin
is home to many events and festivals ranging from cultural, to musical,
to industrial. In fact, the whole calendar year of Turin is packed
with events that are enough to make one stay in Italy all year round.
The city of music celebrates Jazz during the summer
months. Jazz music of Italian, European and American influences
fuse into a wondrous medley of ear candy in the International Jazz
Festival. Famous jazz musicians like Tito Puente and João
Gilberto have performed in various jazz spectacles such as the JVC
Jazz Festival, and many others. Though jazz music caters to mostly
mature audiences, there is also a fair share of musical events that
younger generations would enjoy, such as the Pellerossa Festival
which always showcases a good number of foreign, as well as home-grown
rock acts. One of the most unique events held in Turin (or anywhere
in the world), is the month-long Settembre Musica, which features
a vast array of professional and amateur musical performances of
various genres including experimental music, played for the appreciation
of the public.
The Big Torino is a gathering of creative young
artists coming from all over Europe. This bi-annual event is held
for a duration of one month, beginning in April and culminating
in May. The event aims to give exposure to newly bred talent and
to rediscover the young and vibrant Turin.
Probably the most important of all festivals in
Italy, certainly one of the most notable in the world is Torino
Film Festival. This special event serves as a launch pad for cinematic
innovation, talent discovery and appraisal, and unorthodox styles,
which usually become new artistic trends in fashion, entertainment
and pop culture.
