Sestriere
is a hugely popular winter resort located near Piedmont, Turin in
Italy. It is undoubtedly the best skiing resort in the Via Lattea,
or the Milky Way ski area. Very few ski resorts in Europe can make
such a claim. Positioned on the slopes facing the northwest, this
famous ski resort in the Alps has an altitude of a little over 2000m.
Sestriere was built in the 1930’s to cater to ski aficionados
and has since been a destination for Milan and Turin visitors to
either showcase their skiing prowess or simply frolic in the snow.
Either way, people come to Sestriere to have a good time.
Sestriere’s ski runs have long off-pistes
and magnificent slopes for intermediate to expert skiers, especially
in up in the Motta area or down hill Kandahar. The overall landscape
offers even non-skiers a chance to enjoy the snowy terrain and eventually
succumb into the pressure of trying to ski for the first time in
the Manovia Area.
Still there are many ways to enjoy the winter
season in Sestriere. Aside from skiing, a sports centre in the area
provides other activities such as ice climbing, ice skating and
snowmobiling. In addition, the lift system provides a magnificent
view of the Milky Way, which is possibly the largest skiing area
in all of Europe.
During peak months, usually from December to April,
people come in droves and it can be expected that almost all hotels
are fully booked. So when planning a trip here, it is highly recommended
to book in advance.
