Livigno
is definitely one of the most beautiful resorts you can choose to
stay in when planning a skiing trip to the Alps. Situated high in
the Italian part of the Alps, Livigno offers a wonderful skiing
experience for beginners, intermediate and professional skiers,
as well as snowboarders.
There are six slopes on which various ski runs
are to be found, varying between their levels of difficulty. These
Alpine ski runs have a total distance of 115 km, with the longest
run being 4 km in length. Apart from this, Livigno also boasts of
a prepared 40 km cross-country ski run where challenge-anxious,
long-distance skiers can ski to their heart’s content in various
styles and techniques. Snowboarders are also provided with their
own haven in a special park that showcases a large half-pipe for
all the snowboarding stunts and exhibitions they can think of doing.
During the month of December (usually on the second
week), an annual international ski marathon dubbed "Sgambeda"
takes place. This serves as the official opening of Livigno’s
winter season. This is part of the reason why a great number of
skiing enthusiasts flock to Livigno — to partake in the town’s
wonderful festivities, in addition to its great skiing.
Interestingly, skiing is not the only activity
you can do in Livigno. There are a wide variety of shopping and
entertainment activities to do in this Alpine area as well. Livigno
is a duty-free zone. And in a highly taxed country like Italy, this
advantage simply gives skiers and tourists more reason to come and
return to Livigno.
