Courmayeur
is a popular ski resort situated at the Aosta Valley on the Italian
side of Mount Blanc. The highest summit of this mountainous massif
on the French-Swiss and French-Italian borders is also the highest
peak in the Alps. Courmayeur’s huge international appeal can
be seen and felt through its visitors who have come from various
places of origin to experience this dream holiday destination.
The Aosta Valley is known for its breathtaking
scenery as well as its rich history. Courmayeur itself is an attractive
village that exudes friendliness with an easy pace, and the accommodations
available here have a distinct charm and character. However, the
distance of one’s chosen hotel from the lifts and the availability
of a free shuttle are considerations worth looking into.
Courmayeur is primarily known as a winter getaway.
Skiing enthusiasts of any level have something to look forward to
in this resort, although more than half of its terrain is suitable
for intermediate skiers. Other winter activities available are heliskiing,
cross-country skiing, dog sledding, ice climbing, ice skating, ice
hockey and snow hiking.
It is fast becoming popular as a choice summer
destination as well. Golf, tennis, horse-back riding, trekking,
bungee jumping, canyoning, kayaking, canoeing, parachuting, mountain
biking and fishing are just some of the activities that can provide
unlimited hours of adventurous fun or quiet relaxation.
If there would be one reason to go to Courmayeur,
it would be to see the stunning views afforded by the Mont Blanc
massif. Dining in its excellent restaurants is an experience in
itself, while its spirited nightlife is something to look forward
to. Courmayeur is pervaded with an atmosphere of good-natured hospitality,
perhaps a tradition carried on from the time its first inn opened
in 1680.
