Located
high up in the Alps, Bormio is one of the most famous ski resorts
in Italy. It is the perfect skiing destination for tourists and
out-of-towners wanting to have a bit of snow activity and relaxation.
It is perfect get-away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The charm of this skiing resort is due to the
many quaint and traditional spots that provide other things to do
apart from on-snow activities, such as shopping, dining, and nightlife.
Bormio has a fascinating town center that’s almost medieval,
save for modern amenities. Bormio is also a popular venue for snow
events such as the World Championships in 1995. In fact, it played
host again to the same event in 2005.
Though there are some slopes that can be of interest
to expert skiers, the experience may prove to be quite limiting
for them with its total 39m long piste. However, beginners will
find the slopes and ski runs of medium steepness just right. The
pistes are artificially covered with snow to ensure safety for skiers
especially in the afternoons when the cold breeze could turn it
icy. For beginners, there are a number of ski schools and teachers
who can orient them on the basics and fundamentals of skiing.
One could expect to encounter a lot of people
especially during weekends, when most people flock from all over
northern Italy. The winter season lasts from December to April,
thus the resort is at its peak season during these months.
