Travelling
with children in Italy is without doubt one of the most wonderful
experiences. Italians adore children and will do anything to help
them and amuse them. Children are welcomed everywhere and at any
time. There are discounts for children to be had on most public
transport and into many museums and art galleries.
Here are a few suggestions of where to go with
your children. But of course these are just the tip of the iceberg:
If your children enjoy eating pasta and spaghetti,
and your trip happens to include going to Rome, a visit to the National
Museum of Pasta Foods is a fun place to take them. It's located
near to the Trevi Fountain and you will be able to see different
methods of making pasta making throughout the ages.
Collodi is a place in Tuscany near Pistoia. It
should be famous for being an ancient medieval hill village with
a beauty unto itself. But what's its really famous for is
because the author of Pinocchio (Carlo Lorenzini) used the name
Collodi as his pseudonym for the book. Pinocchio's Theme Park
is located nearby.
Venice is a wonderful city but there is a lot
of walking involved. The vaporetti are an exciting way
to sightsee the canals. You might consider staying at the Lido as
it is the only part of Venice you can drive to, and has plenty of
activities on its well-equipped beaches.
Italia in Miniatura is an open air park
designed by the creator of E.T. It has over 250 miniature replicas
of Italian monuments, sights and daily life. It's located
within a 15 mile stretch of coast between Cesenatico to Ravenna
which has sandy beaches, shallow calm waters and endless activities
for children.
